People Assistant’s History
People Assistant was founded by Mark Ziska and Jim O’Brien in 2000 and officially incorporated in 2006. Ziska worked as the HR senior executive of Raytheon, where he led the implementation of PeopleSoft, according to Divers. Oracle’s PeopleSoft is a series of applications which assist with human capital, finances and business management. When Ziska saw the time and money required to implement PeopleSoft, he began to imagine a simpler, more efficient HR management process. Ziska joined forces with O’Brien, an experienced financial and information technology executive, and the two began designing and building People Assistant.
Ziska’s experience with PeopleSoft allowed him to foresee and overcome potential problems to create People Assistant. One of the major challenges with PeopleSoft was that it required the use of multiple systems that not only failed to function well together, but also were “far more costly than necessary,” said Divers. People Assistant, on the other hand, uses a variety of modules which can be used independently or together as a complete platform. Ziska and O’Brien created People Assistant to be “fully integrated with flexible workflows that allow for a company to configure a ‘best practice’ that is ideally suited for their enterprise,” he says.
The People Assistant HRIS technology platform entirely replaces a company’s current Applicant Tracking System (ATS). Clients can choose from individual modules of the HRIS or subscribe to the complete platform, said Divers.
The strategic module allows employers to develop employee roles and monitor performance and competencies according to the company’s strategic plan. Talent acquisition uses a competency-based ATS and the company job board to create an automated system for the hiring process, which connects with the on-boarding process. People Assistant’s training module allows clients “access to individual training plans designed to meet the company’s requirements,” said Divers. This feature works directly with the People Assistant development team to take advantage of any opportunities revealed in employee assessment or based on succession planning. The platform allows organizations to create content to be completed by employees, which is then documented and filed in the personnel module.
Using the company’s strategic plan, management is capable of comparing “employee outcomes to the desired results” with the performance module. This feature enables HR professionals to identify competency gaps using performance reports that can be scheduled daily or periodically. The compensation capabilities of People Assistant allow for detailed control over payroll, including monitoring compensation as related to performance. This module “provides flexibility for changes that occur in compensation [and] control over positions as well as new position requests,” said Divers.
People Assistant’s HRIS module allows HR professionals “to manage each employee’s data and files through an easy to use interface,” Divers said. The platform is configurable to each employee’s location within the organization and allows management to track and report EEO requirements. The compliance module automatically audits and notifies the employee who require certification so that their credentials are kept up to date. People Assistant handles employee benefits enrollment and shares EDI enrollment changes with the organization’s provider.
